As if Sony hasn’t already claimed a significant chunk of our finances
The highly anticipated PlayStation Portal Remote Player, set to launch on November 15, is now available for pre-order at the official PlayStation Direct online store, priced at $199.99.
Sony has moved swiftly to bring this exciting release to gamers. Initially introduced as “Project Q” in May 2023, Sony officially unveiled the device’s specifications and release date on August 23. As of August 31, the PlayStation Portal Remote Player is open for pre-orders exclusively through PlayStation Direct.
Designed for PS5 enthusiasts who appreciate the convenience and portability of handheld gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch, the Portal is an essential addition to the PS5 ecosystem. Sony’s promise is clear: it will put the full PS5 experience “in the palm of your hand.”
However, it’s important to note some key distinctions between the PlayStation Portal and other handheld gaming devices. This remote player requires users to already own a PS5 console and maintain a connection to it via home WiFi. As a result, it isn’t suitable for on-the-go gaming and serves as a complement rather than a replacement for a standalone PS5 console.
Nevertheless, many players are likely to embrace the opportunity to enjoy the PS5’s impressive titles and graphics in a remote handheld format. It’s anticipated to become a sought-after holiday gift for PlayStation enthusiasts, and for households with a single TV, it could bring an end to disputes over TV access.
